While there may not be a "policy," I have seen that happen many times before, and every time, I have seen the gate agent kindy remind the person that they are in the wrong group and will need to wait for the appropriate time.

My VPN will connect, but it disables all data transmission for my laptop. So I do not use it. I am able to use Microsoft 360 to access most anything I need: as long as I manage my speed expectations, and as long as there is a reliable connection, which is often not the case.

I fully understand your perspective. With that said, the terms and conditions of SW RR points are clearly stated in SW’s website. Since this is a passenger community, I would recommend you reaching out to Cusotmer Relations at 855-234-4654. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! And for being an understanding passenger. As one who typically takes later flights, I appreciate SW getting those first flights out on time!! And I am with you. I am extra careful to allow enough time when I am flying on a Business Select ticket. Gotta get that good spot!

Good tips! I too love the gate to gate WiFi on SW along with the good entertainment options! You referenced the idea of “when it is working,” and that spoke to my heart! I haven’t had a flight in the last two months where my WiFi, which is free since I am A List Preferred, did not experience some type of issue. Since I travel for work, I depend on the connectivity to stay productive. I reached out to SW on Twitter, and they let me know that they are working with the vendor to increase reliability. I sure hope so!!

I stumbled across something new in NYC this AM: Southwest Porch at Bryant Park. According to the website: “Escape Midtown madness on a wooden deck under a quiet canopy of string lights at Southwest Porch, located at…wait for it…the southwest corner of Bryant Park. This watering hole provides sweet serenity with just the right amount of relaxed fun. Sit back on rocking chairs, lunch at picnic tables, or sip cocktails on one of our porch swings. Where the business casual and the fashionable unwind with our extensive whiskey selection, craft beers on tap, and light food fare. Southwest Porch is an alfresco delight, perfect for a gathering of friends or a secluded moment of romance under the stars.” Learn more about SW Porch on social media on Instagram and Twitter, and check it out next time you are in the city!

The general method of contacting SW is listed at the Contact Us link below, but you might have better luck in this situation with Corporate Relations: 855-234-4654 since you have not been able to receive a resolution. I realize you are interested in additional compensation due to the purchase of other flight, but you should have at least received a refund for the SW flights since they cancelled and you did not reschedule???

I second the live chat option for quick help. Note that weather in TX yesterday cause significant flight disruptions. There are likely many folks who need help, resulting in the longer wait time.

I am not aware of a certain fare type being required. Reading here and here about the policy doesn't turn up any exceptions, and I think it is safe to assume those would be clearly indicated. If you want to get an official answer from SW, you can use the Contact Us link below, or reach out to them via Twitter or the Live Chat option in the SW app!

The workaround at this time is to book the available SW option TO Hawaii and then to book the return trip in two legs: Hawaii to California (spend the night) California to home (the next morning)

Did you add it more than 36 hours out from your flight? It is important to ensure you do. I do think it is strange that it did not show on your boarding pass, but I would also stress that it is FULLY possible to be well into the B section with EBCI. There are so many A-Listers these days, and when you add the large number of folks purchasing EBCI, it can be a lot. I would recommend contacting SW as they can help you immediately. The quickest way would be to direct message the Twitter team at @southwestair or reach out to SW via the SW App new Live Chat functionality. Good luck!

I think that has been the norm for some time, and I would always recommend hanging onto the boarding pass through the flight anyway. There are a few reasons: 1) If anything weird happens with weather or other irregular operations, having your conf # handy is helpful if you need to reach out for help via phone, Twitter, or the new Live Chat thru the SW app! 2) In the off chance anything were to happen to your bag, you have your conf number handy. The best option is to go mobile, and save some trees along the way!

I feel you! And I agree. Several months ago, I had several flights over several weeks where it did not work. It had gotten really bad — bad enough that I didn’t feel it should be a published ALP benefit. Maybe I just had bad luck? Not sure. Either way, my experience has largely improved, but it is indeed slow. The Max aircraft always seemed faster to me, bit we all know about those! 🙂

Unfortunately, no. Those bonus points do not count toward A List status. They are not "tier qualifying points." Additional detail from SW's site: Tier qualifying points are earned from revenue flights booked through Southwest Airlines® or through the use of the Rapid Rewards® Priority or Premier Credit Cards (1,500 tier qualifying points for every $10,000 in eligible net purchases on that card, up to 15,000 tier qualifying points per year). In other words, with the exception of the bonus points you can recieve from ongoing spend on your SW card, TQPs are earned by flying paid flights only.

I understand and your frustration! Pros and cons, as you mentioned. SW’s purchase of AirTran greatly expanded the AirTran network, and for frequent SW flyers, Atlanta is a valuable new hub for connections. On the flip side, I can see how this change has negatively impacted availability for your travel needs and how pricing has changed a lot for your airport. Personal opinion here, but I am constantly surprised that airfare has not general increased more than it has over the past several years. I’m sure that smaller airports feel the changes more than larger airports simply due to supply and demand. I wonder...do you often buy flights at the last minute? SW is generally very competitive unless you are buying last minute flights with only Business Select fares available. Of course, you know the Norfolk market far better than I. Just thinking out loud...

In the past, I have never been able to cancel my ticket without first cancelling my Companion's, so that sounds like a glitch! I would give our friends at SWA a shout and explain the situation -- either via Twitter or via the new SW app Live Chat feature! As a last resort, you could also call using the info at the Contact Us link below. I am sure they will get you squared away!

It depends on the reason. If there is a weather delay, do not expect compensation. Delays for other reasons are typically handled on a case-by-case basis. I have experienced many small delays with no comp (which is par for the course across many airlines). Once, there was a two hour delay that pushed us to departing past midnight. Proactively, SW gave everyone on the plane a $100 LUV voucher. If your delay causes you to not get to your destination on the scheduled day, the compensation might be larger, depending (again) on the reason.

I def don’t think the system change will take that long, but as far as the physical card goes, the T&Cs of CP do state that the Companion should be prepared to show his or her card on demand. I have NEVER had that enforced, but it is worth noting for full disclosure. 🙂

According to the terms and conditions below, the answer should be yes. Note the details about reservations and a wait for the CP card to arrive: The Member is limited to one Companion at any time. After designating a Companion, the Member will be issued a Companion Pass card. The Companion Pass card is not transferrable. The Member may, however, change his/her designated Companion and request issuance of a new Companion Pass card up to three (3) times each calendar year that the Member maintains Companion Pass status. Any reservation with the current Companion Pass would need to be cancelled before changing his/her designated Companion. Requests may be made by calling 1-800-435-9792. Allow 21 business days for processing and issuance of the Companion Pass card. The Member's designated Companion must be an individual. An individual may not travel as both a Member and a Companion on the same flight. Corporations and other entities cannot be designated as Companions.

The short answer is yes, but when I have done this in the past, I had booked each direction as a separate reservation. If you are booked as one round trip, I would call SW to get an agent to help you accomplish this change.

I can totally relate. I am in your same boat, mostly. ALP with CP. My wife is my companion, and when we travel together, I always have to save a seat for her. When we travel with our kids, I board in my spot with our baby (lap child), and she boards in family boarding with our oldest. Once our kids are too old for family boarding, it will all be much more difficult. At the same time, I struggle with the solution. For all the pros of SW's boarding process, there are some cons. I also image there are some logistical challenges with the booking and check in process with families. For example, we usually buy my ticket, add my wife as companion, and then purchase our oldest's with points. Technically, we are all on separate reservations, even though they are linked. As much as I wish they could board with me when we travel together, I (as ALP) would also NOT love the fact that there might be entire families boarding together ahead of me when I am travelling solo. So it's tough! I just know we make it work, and for the value that SW brings for us, it is worth the tradeoff.

Southwest Airlines employee serenades mother of slain Arizona state trooper David Oliver, USA TODAY Published 1:22 p.m. ET April 1, 2019 | Updated 1:32 p.m. ET April 2, 2019 The mother of a fallen Arizona state trooper received a heartfelt greeting − via song − from a Southwest Airlines operations agent aboard a March flight from Phoenix to Louisville, Kentucky. Debbie Edenhofer's son Tyler Edenhofer, a trooper at the Arizona Department of Public Safety, was killed in July in a struggle on Interstate 10 in Phoenix. During a March 22 flight aboard Southwest, operations agent Scott Wirt called attention to the fact that the late trooper's mother was on the flight and sang "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban in her honor. Wirt and Debbie Edenhofer have since struck up a friendship. "It was all so real," Edenhofer told USA TODAY. "I was the last one on the plane, now Scott and I are friends, as he found me on Facebook and we exchanged numbers. It’s so amazing how people come into your life. Scott is a very nice and caring person." Wirt said he simply wanted to honor her son's legacy. "It’s a passion of mine to be able to give back to our customers in the way I know how and that’s by singing," Wirt said in a statement to USA TODAY. "This particular story touched my heart and I couldn’t think of a better way to honor their son’s legacy by singing such a wonderful song. We never know why someone is traveling but when we do we want to be there for them." A fellow passenger, Sean Warren, filmed Wirt singing over the intercom. His post on Facebook has since been viewed more than 70,000 times. "I just want you to know I think we should have more interruptions like this," Warren wrote in his now-viral post. "In fact, it is no interruption at all. It actually makes things quite clear. And it shares, in a public way, a private burden this family carries." He thanked Wirt "for leading us and for honoring them," and added to Edenhofer " 'thank you' seems so utterly inadequate. May you be blessed daily in your thoughts of your son’s service and sacrifice. May heaven give you in abundance what you missed here on earth." Source

Agreed. As long as you book it correctly, your companion is a confirmed flyer just like anyone else on the plane. Small caveat: remember that in theory anyone can be bumped...although that is very rare since flights are not really oversold anymore. To prevent that, I recommend checking in as early in the check in window as possible to ensure the companion pass holder does not have among the last boarding positions.

If I am following you correctly, you want to use points for a minor who will ultimatley be travelling with you on a future flight as a companion (for free using CP). Is that correct? If that is the case, to accomplish what you are talking about, you would use points to purchase a ticket for the minor. As part of the purchase process, the SW system online will ask you to enter your information and link your reservation to the minor's (therefore, he/she will not be unaccompanied). Once your CP comes through, you can cancel the points purchase (the points will refund to your account, and the taxes can be re-used for the traveler) and then add the minor as your companion on the trip. I will say that you cannot be 100% sure that "holding" the seat now will absolutely guarantee that you will be able to add them as the companion later. In theory, you can cancel the points purchase, and even if the flight is sold out, it should free up a seat to grab with CP. With that said, there are booking scenarios where that might not be able to happen. I think it would be rare, but it is a thought. I hope I have understood your question and that this helps!
